Press On

Press On

Philippians 3:14  “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Eyes on the Prize

Runners don’t look backward if they want to win the race. They keep their eyes fixed forward, pressing toward the finish line. Paul uses this imagery to describe the Christian life: not a sprint, but a long-distance run that requires endurance, focus, and determination.

Pressing on doesn’t mean the race is easy. It means the goal is worth it.

Forgetting What Is Behind

Just before this verse, Paul says he forgets what is behind and strains toward what is ahead. That’s a challenge for all of us. We often carry regrets from the past - failures, missed opportunities, sins we can’t seem to let go of. But dwelling on yesterday slows our pace today.

God calls us to fix our eyes forward, where Christ is. The prize isn’t found in revisiting the past; it’s found in pursuing Him with everything we have.

Running with Endurance

Pressing on doesn’t mean we run in our own strength. The Spirit supplies endurance, guiding our steps when our legs feel weak. Christ Himself is both the goal and the One who empowers us to reach it.

Every stumble, every setback, every weary mile is an opportunity to lean on Him and keep moving forward. The finish line is not just survival - it’s joy in Christ, both now and forever.

This Week’s Challenge

Write down one spiritual goal for this season of your life. Pray over it daily and take one intentional step toward it this week.

A Prayer for Endurance

Lord, help me press on toward You. Free me from the weight of the past, strengthen me for today’s race, and fix my eyes on the eternal prize that is found in Christ alone. Amen.
