Light in the Darkness

John 1:5 — “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Darkness That Intimidates

Darkness has a way of making us feel small—whether it’s the darkness of uncertainty, grief, fear, or sin. It threatens to overwhelm, convincing us that hope is out of reach. Yet John reminds us of a truth that cannot be shaken: the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Christ’s light is stronger than any darkness we face.

The Light That Wins

Darkness is powerful only until the light appears. Even the smallest flame changes everything in a pitch-black room. Jesus, the Light of the World, doesn’t just pierce the darkness—He overcomes it completely. The cross looked like defeat, but it was the victory that extinguished the power of sin and death forever.

Wherever Christ shines, darkness loses.

Carrying the Light

As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His light in a world that desperately needs it. We don’t create the light—we carry it. Every act of love, truth, and faithfulness pushes back the darkness around us.

No matter how dark it seems, remember: the light always wins.

This Week’s Challenge

Carry Christ’s light intentionally this week. Encourage someone in despair, speak truth where lies abound, or offer kindness where bitterness prevails. Shine His light in one dark place.

A Prayer to Shine

Lord, thank You for being the Light that darkness cannot overcome. Help me carry Your light into the dark places of this world and reflect Your hope to others. Amen.
