Keep the Fire Burning

Leviticus 6:13  “The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.”

A Flame That Must Not Die

In Leviticus, God commands that the fire on the altar never be allowed to go out. Day and night, the priests tended the flame, feeding it so that worship would always rise before the Lord. This fire was more than light or warmth - it was a symbol of God’s presence and devotion that endured without interruption.

Our hearts are now the altar. And the flame that must not die is our devotion to Christ.

The Discipline of Devotion

A fire doesn’t stay lit on its own. If left unattended, it fades to embers and eventually burns out. The same is true of faith. Without intentional time in Scripture, prayer, and worship, our zeal cools and our hearts drift.

Spiritual fire is sustained not by emotion but by discipline. It’s the daily, often hidden choices that keep our devotion alive: opening the Word when we’re tired, whispering prayers when we don’t know what to say, lifting a song when we don’t feel like singing.

Sparks That Ignite

The flame doesn’t just warm us - it lights the way for others. When our devotion burns brightly, it encourages those around us, spreading hope and faith. A steady flame in a dark world is a testimony that God’s presence still dwells with His people.

The altar fire of our lives must not go out. It’s too important, too powerful, and too needed in the world around us.

This Week’s Challenge

Commit to one daily practice this week that keeps your flame burning - reading one Psalm, praying before work, or singing one song of worship. Keep it simple, but keep it consistent.

A Prayer for Steadfast Fire

Lord, keep the fire of my devotion burning. Guard me from distraction, stir my heart with discipline, and let my life shine as a flame that never goes out. Amen.
