Citizens of Heaven

Philippians 3:20  “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

A Different Allegiance

Where we hold citizenship shapes our identity. It gives us rights, responsibilities, and belonging. Paul reminds us that as followers of Christ, our ultimate citizenship is not tied to this world but to heaven itself.

That truth shifts everything. It changes how we see ourselves, how we live, and what we long for.

Living as Kingdom People

To live as citizens of heaven means to represent our true homeland here on earth. We don’t adopt the values of a world passing away - we live by the values of a Kingdom that cannot be shaken. Justice, mercy, humility, and holiness become our way of life.

It also means our hope is anchored in the return of our Savior. While the world chases temporary gains, we look forward to the day when Christ returns and makes all things new.

Strangers and Ambassadors

Citizenship in heaven means we will sometimes feel like strangers here. Our convictions may set us apart, and our choices may look different. That’s not a flaw - it’s proof that our loyalty belongs to another Kingdom.

We are not here to blend in. We are here to stand out as ambassadors of the One who reigns forever.

This Week’s Challenge

Each day, remind yourself: “I am a citizen of heaven.” Let that truth shape one decision this week - whether in how you spend your time, how you speak, or how you respond to challenges.

A Prayer of Allegiance

Lord, remind me that my citizenship is in heaven. Help me live each day as an ambassador of Your Kingdom until the day You return. Amen.
