Be Still

Psalm 46:10 — “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’”

The Struggle With Stillness

Stillness doesn’t come naturally. We live in a culture that equates busyness with worth and noise with importance. Yet God calls us to a different posture: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Stillness is not inactivity—it’s trust. It’s the deliberate act of stopping our striving so we can remember who holds the world in His hands.

Knowing, Not Just Doing

The command isn’t only to “be still”—it’s to know that He is God. Stillness gives us space to see His power, His presence, and His faithfulness more clearly. When we stop running in our own strength, we start recognizing His.

Busyness may fill our days, but only stillness fills our souls.

Peace in His Presence

Stillness doesn’t always change our circumstances, but it changes us. It silences fear, quiets anxiety, and strengthens faith. In stillness, we’re reminded that God will be exalted no matter what. The nations may rage, the world may shake, but He remains on the throne.

To be still is to rest in the confidence that God is God—and we are not.

This Week’s Challenge

Set aside one block of 15 minutes this week for stillness before God. No phone, no distractions—just quiet trust in His presence.

A Prayer for Stillness

Lord, teach me to be still. Quiet my striving, calm my fears, and remind me that You are God over every circumstance. Amen.
